As human beings, we innately want to trust that those who are our superiors at work are treating everyone nicely, and equally. Sadly, this is not always the case. When someone gets into a position of power over others, he sometimes lets that power go to his head and mistakenly thinks that he can get away with it. A Florida state regulator has recently been fired for workplace discrimination as well as sexual harassment against some of his female employees.
The man was a supervisor in Florida’s Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco. A report about his misconduct has been filed claiming that he created a hostile work environment for his co-workers. According to the report, the man repeatedly abused his position as a supervisor by subjecting his employees to his degrading behavior.
The report claims that earlier reports would have been filed, but the employees were afraid of retaliation from the supervisor or that he would communicate with the employer and manipulate the truth. The supervisor has been accused of making racial slurs against some employees. He also allegedly made sexually inappropriate comments as well as committed other acts of discrimination against some female employees.
The employers decided that it was in the best interest of the company as well as the state of Florida itself to dismiss the supervisor. The investigation is still currently being conducted. If all the charges the supervisor is accused of are found true, the women who were victims of his workplace discrimination can be entitled to lawsuits in order to gain compensation for the damages they have sustained.
